About this module

Passing forward what they've spent four years building.

After four years of building self-awareness, agency, and the practice of contribution, a teenager is in a genuine position to offer something real to someone younger walking a few steps behind them. This module treats mentoring not as a formal program to join, but as a relationship to build with intention, whether that's a younger sibling, a student at their school, or someone in their community. Passing forward what they've learned deepens it further, in the same way teaching a thing tends to clarify it for the person doing the teaching.

What they'll explore

Four shifts this module is building toward.

  • What makes a mentoring relationship genuinely useful to the person being mentored.
  • How to identify someone younger in their own life who could benefit from their specific experience.
  • A realistic way of starting and sustaining that relationship, without over-formalizing it.
  • Practice offering one specific, useful piece of what they've learned to that person.

Three lanes of knowing

Understood, practiced, and explored.

Lane 1 · Science

Why teaching something clarifies it further

What's understood about how explaining a skill or insight to someone else deepens the teacher's own grasp of it.

Lane 2 · Practice

Starting a real mentoring relationship

A practical guide to identifying someone younger to mentor and taking a first, low-pressure step toward that relationship.

Lane 3 · Meaning-making

What do I actually have to offer someone younger?

Reflection identifying the specific experience or insight most worth passing forward right now.

Outcome

"I can offer someone younger something real from what I've built, and it makes what I've built more solid."
