About this module

Technology in a classroom should be a choice, not a reflex.

Digital tools and artificial intelligence are entering classrooms whether or not any individual teacher has chosen them deliberately, and this module gives a teacher moving into school design work a framework for making those choices consciously, evaluating each tool against whether it genuinely serves human development or merely automates what used to require a human's attention. The goal is not resistance to technology, but intentional, human-centered integration of it.

What you'll explore

Three shifts this module is building toward.

  • A framework for evaluating whether a digital or AI tool genuinely serves development, or merely automates attention away from it.
  • What human-centered technology integration looks like in a real classroom, concretely.
  • One current use of technology in this school worth reconsidering under this framework.

Three lanes of knowing

Understood, practiced, and explored.

Lane 1 · Science

Evaluating technology's role

What's understood about distinguishing technology that extends human development from technology that quietly substitutes for it.

Lane 2 · Practice

A tool-evaluation practice

A short, practical framework for evaluating one classroom technology tool against a human-centered standard.

Lane 3 · Meaning-making

What am I defaulting into, versus choosing?

Reflection on which current technology uses in this teacher's practice were deliberately chosen, and which simply happened.

Outcome

"I evaluate technology deliberately now, rather than defaulting into whatever arrives."
